![]() ![]() ![]() Those moments were annoying but they were rare enough that they didn’t ruin the game, and the developer is promising a release hotfix to patch the worst problems.Īlso note that Darksiders 3 is playable with a mouse and keyboard-controls are remappable, too-but is really built for a controller and I'd recommend using one. I didn’t encounter many bugs or glitches, but in one area, on two separate occasions, the game randomly froze every five seconds, and I could only fix it by restarting. I got generally stable performance across the world, and my GTX 1070 could run Darksiders 3 on the highest settings at a steady 60 fps, with occasional dips into the 50s-although my framerate tanked briefly during one boss battle. Fury changes too much during the story, and too suddenly, for it to feel like a natural character arc, which makes it hard to care come the finale. I caught glimpses of the unabashed corniness that drew me to the first two games, but Darksiders 3 takes itself too seriously. He’s also wonderfully sarcastic and has a cutting tongue-more than can be said for most of the cast. Chip away his health bar and he’ll jump out of his seat, swinging a giant club. Sloth, for example, sits on a throne carried by smaller bugs, directing his army. The seven sins draw on familiar tropes-underwater sea monsters, giant bugs, a huge man in fire armour-but they all have different quirks that stop them feeling boring. But when I fought bosses that summon minions, like the giant bug Sloth, I ran into the same camera problems as when I faced big groups of grunts, which makes them feel disproportionately hard. One-on-one battles, including in the late-game, are too easy: learn the attack pattern, dodge at the right time and counter punch. There's just a lot more available to War than you'd see on a casual playthrough.Difficulty is therefore uneven: it feels right for small groups of hard-hitting enemies, but battling larger groups of often weaker foes is frustrating. So while it might seem really crazy/full of hacks, I was playing on a normal purchased copy of the game on the latest patch. Doing so allows you to go through the Ashlands without even needing the Chrono ability. So by cycling jump, dash, shoot one is able to move nearly as quickly as the horse. The gun normally makes War very slow, but it has a strange property of preserving momentum from the air. Once you get the gun another technique becomes available: Gun dashing. By throwing in air dashes as well, I'm able to go just about anywhere in the world as long as I can point myself in the right direction. On keyboard, I bind jump to 4 and "Next Gear" to 5, so when I'm jumping, I'll use the horn or gun, mash 4/5 three times (to bring it back to the original gear) and then repeat the process to gain height very quickly. When you use a Gear, if you swap to a different gear and jump at the same time, it will give you a normal jump again, allowing you to repeat the process for infinite jumps. It lets you kill stuff way faster than normal.Īfter getting the boomerang, the real fun starts. This allows War to make quite a few jumps that would otherwise be slightly out of reach until later.įor attacking, when you swing your sword, you can hit block to cancel it, then let go of block and swing again. Normally it gives you a quick dash forward and down, but if you hold Focus while using it to the side or backwards, you can cover a large distance completely horizontally. The Meteor Impact (air dash) also has some nice effects. I use that extensively at the start, one just has to be careful of enemy lockons that will change your camera. There's a lot of ways to speed up movement, especially when using mouse and keyboard.įrom the start, there are several movement options available: the first is that by activating Focus, holding LMB to do the sword uppercut and then mashing dash sideways or backwards will cancel the two actions into each other, allowing you to move quickly along the ground. Nope, just using the normal game mechanics, found by various glitch hunters and speedrunners in the 5 years since the original came out. ![]()
